Widgets in business mobile banking app allow users to receive information, connect services, and launch business processes from the main screen. So they can create a workspace tailored to business processes, using the smartphone as a single window for managing their finance.
In 2021, our client approved the concept of developing the app based on widgets. Among the first product were the "Deposit Widget," "Business Card Management," and "Accounting for Self-Employed" widgets.
We helped the bank in developing each of these widgets, taking on the role of custdev researchers.
Together with entrepreneurs, we tested the functionality of the widgets, determined how they would work in real client scenarios, and how convenient and comprehensive they were in solving business tasks.

We examined each widget separately, formulated a pool of tasks for testing, selected competitor services for comparison, and compiled a list of questions for interviews. The widget product teams provided the described hypotheses for testing.
For each task performed, we recorded the paths taken through the interface and the respondents' comments using the "think aloud" method. After testing, we asked respondents how much the application interface helped them solve the task, where difficulties arose, and whether all their needs were considered.
As a result, we prepared three separate reports that detailed the results of testing, insights from interviews, the validity of hypotheses, strengths and weaknesses of solutions. Based on the best market practices, we also proposed ways to improve the user experience.
This case demonstrates our impact in the launch of a deposit calculator that helps entrepreneurs flexibly adjust product conditions and incentivize them to keep their money in the bank.
Deposits for entrepreneurs are a way of temporarily storing funds that are not in circulation for a specific period of time and can generate additional income. A widget with a deposit calculator for selecting a deposit in the mobile business bank was developed specifically to open short-term products or deposits with early termination or partial withdrawal.
We had to test the following hypotheses:
During the testing process, entrepreneurs in all banks opened time deposits both with and without the option of early termination. In the deposit widget prototype, we also checked the status of the deposit application and the status of the existing deposit.
Entrepreneurs value the ability to quickly access their money more than a high interest rate. It takes such a scenario into account: one can add an early withdrawal option and immediately see the impact of this parameter on the interest rate, so that the final profitability is calculated on the same screen. Respondents highly appreciated this feature.
Observing how entrepreneurs choose the deposit term, we noticed that they prefer to mark it by selecting a date on the calendar rather than just indicating the number of days. Respondents explained that they often place money in a deposit while waiting for payment under a contract. The payment date is known in advance, and it is very convenient to select it on the calendar rather than enter it manually or use a slider.
Originally, the widget offered to choose a deposit term using a scale. Some entrepreneurs also found this solution convenient. As a result, the bank team took both options for choosing the deposit term - a calendar and a scale - into development and thus took into account the most common scenarios for opening a deposit in the widget.
All the conclusions of the testing were taken into account, and with some minor improvements, the widget will become an even more convenient mobile tool for opening and managing deposits.
The three product widgets that we researched for the project were launched in the app in December 2021. Each of the products made the banking service even more accessible for mobile-only use.
This case study demonstrates a strategic and user-centric approach to developing and launching business banking widgets. By partnering with Markswebb, the client successfully created tailored workspace solutions that enhanced user experience and accessibility for entrepreneurs, positioning the app as a leader in mobile banking innovation.
